Culture Minister plans to stop financial support for LGBTI+ NGOs

Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova wants to stop funding of LGBTI+ NGOs. She considers their activities as “progressive normalization”.
She said that the ministry will save on money for organizing prides, educating young people and activists in LGBTI themes in schools and bars and her basic idea is that the ministry and its activities will return back to “normality”.
According to Martin Macko of the Inakost initiative that organizes the Rainbow Pride and a film festival, it is unthinkable that the independent institutions that are in charge of granting the financial resources for culture from the public money should decide to ignore one particular community.
Martin Macko considers the year 2024 as a year for fighting for independence of public culture institutions, because these changes might not only affect the LGBTI+ community.
