During their visit to Slovakia, seven congressmen from the United States assured President Zuzana Caputova and Prime Minister Robert Fico of the cooperation between US and Slovakia. They consider Slovakia a very important ally within the NATO. However, the topic of the meetings was not only NATO and the situation in Ukraine, but also the grant from the United States, which Slovakia received as part of the Phoenix project.

The senators appreciated that although the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico will no longer be sending military aid to Ukraine, it is continuing humanitarian aid, as well as demining of the state affected by Russian aggression, and arms will also be sent to Kiev from Slovakia through commercial-private channels.

A group of US lawmakers also discussed with our politicians the importance of the rule of law and a free media. Congressman Darrell Issa noted that they themselves come from a country of protests and these are an indication that democracy works in our country, they consider them as our internal political issue and they will not take sides, he stressed.

PM Robert Fico stated that bilateral ties between Slovakia and the United States are close and that he wants to continue to develop them and president Zuzana Caputova said that It is a joint US-European effort to make Europe united, free and peaceful.

The delegation visited Slovakia on Saturday. According to the American Embassy in Slovakia, the aim was the reinforcement of the bilateral ties.
