The opposition parties SDKU-DS, Most-Hid and the Christian Democrats want to discuss developments in Ukraine in Slovak Parliament. The SDKU-DS is even ready to push for convening a special parliamentary session on the topic.
“We'll turn to Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paška in a letter in which we'll ask him to give legislators an opportunity to gain access to information. We want Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák to give us an update in Parliament,” said Most-Hid head Bela Bugar, adding that the lawmakers are particularly interested in learning about Slovakia's geopolitical interests and the Government's stance on meeting Slovakia's obligations towards NATO and the European Union. Bugar's party Most – Hid doesn't like the conduct of Prime Minister Robert Fico, who, the party claims, acts as if he believes only Russian President Vladimir Putin. Most-Hid also disapproves of Fico's assertion that the conflict in Ukraine is in fact a dispute between the United States and Russia.
If the Smer-dominated Parliament refuses to discuss Premier Robert Fico's attitude towards the EU's sanctions against Russia at an ordinary session or a special session, SDKU-DS will initiate a no-confidence vote in PM Fico, stated SDKU chairman Pavol Frešo and caucus leader Ľudovít Kanik. Frešo says he's criticising Fico because the Government hasn't asked the Parliament to approve its moves vis-a-vis the sanctions at all.
