Special prosecutor ignored evidence against Matovic

Prime Minister Robert Fico, accompanied by MP Tibor Gaspar, said there were indications that his predecessor evaded taxes. Igor Matovic and his wife, they said, reduced tax bills for the company Regionpress by funnelling revenues through “fictitious chains“ to Austria and Cyprus. (Matovic sold the company in 2017.)
But, they say, testimony to this effect was known by the Special Prosecutor, and not acted upon.
The latest special prosecutor, Daniel Lipšic, is a “subject servant” of Matovič and that is the main reason why today Matovič is fighting for Lipšic and the Special Prosecutor's Office, said Fico. “Matovič is very well aware of what it means when Lipšic will cease to exist as his protector, in activities that reek of the most serious economic crime," he said.
Matovič responded late yesterday. He denied that he and his family had committed tax fraud. Representatives of the government coalition are making things up, he said, and he will file a criminal complaint.
