The rainy weather in Slovakia this summer has seen farmers in the north still unable to harvest all of this year's crop of cereal grains and rapeseed - even though it's already autumn according to meteorologists, Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber (SPPK) spokesman Stanislav Nemec told TASR on Thursday.
The weather for the next few days does not look encouraging, but if and when it stops raining farmers will take their combines into the fields - however muddy - in hopes of collecting at least part of the crop. “Nonetheless, the quality of this year's crop is very poor. The grains are too wet, which increases the cost for desiccating and storing,” said Nemec, adding that the farmers in the north have also having problems harvesting forage.
