National Council debates budget

Parliament is discussing the proposed budget for next year, these days.

The opposition KDH party considers the government's consolidation package a sham and the draft state budget “a mortgage with unsustainable interest.“

Jozef Hajko said: “for every three euros it collects in taxes and levies, the government will have to add one euro from borrowing," Hajko said.

The SaS Party says the budget will not raise revenue but on the contrary massively damage the economy and may even cause a decline in tax revenues.

Marián Viskupič proposed six amendments, aiming to keep the reduced VAT rate for the entire gastrosector, to keep health care premiums at the same level, to reduce dividend taxes, and to keep taxes and tariffs on cars down.

The opposition is using every opportunity to slow down the legislative process, in order to delay the vote on another law:  the abolition of the special prosecutor’s office until the new year. It wants to keep the debate open until midnight today, and if possible, continue between Christmas and New Year.
