Strong public opposition to SNS candidate

Negotiations on the distribution of ministries across the three coalition partners are continuing, but not just between the parties of Smer, Hlas and SNS. Some candidates arouse strong emotions among the public.

Rudolf Huliak, for example. He is mayor of the village of Očová and a member of SNS. He is mentioned as one of the candidates for the ministry of the environment. A petition against the nomination of Mr Huliak (as well as another SNS politician, Flip Kuffa) has already been signed by almost 30.000 people, including more than 100 scientists and teachers, and about 50 non-profit organizations.

“These politicians, who have already shown an interest in the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, want to cancel the new zoning of national parks. […] They also want to abolish brown bear response teams and allow local hunting associations to hunt bears and wolves. Both are also known for their aggressive statements towards the conservation community and also for spreading hoaxes or conspiracy theories, for example that "the bear is being used as a biological weapon to destroy the countryside," or that the international elites are trying to deprive people of car ownership by inventing the climate crisis.”

The petition concludes: “We believe that the posts of ministers should be filled by people of integrity with character assumptions, opinions and expertise corresponding to these important functions.”

SNS leader Andrej Danko said on television over the weekend: „Mr Huliak is a mayor, he is well known in the industry of hunting and the environment.‘
