COVID-19 Emergency situation could be lifted on Wednesday

The extraordinary emergency situation that has been in place in Slovakia in relation to COVID-19 could be lifted by the government on Wednesday with effect on Friday, Premier Ludovit Odor said following a meeting of the central crisis management team on Monday. The effect could help with deporting migrants from countries other than Syria, where there's still an ongoing war.

The premier claimed that the emergency situation has been administratively preventing the authorities from deporting illegal migrants. Odor at the same time noted that the measure has concerned mostly the Health and Social Affairs Ministries, as it administered, for instance, measures for disabled people, allowances for certain groups, the distribution of medicines and the replenishment of reserves for certain equipment. Nevertheless, the premier stressed that no one would be deprived of anything when the emergency situation is lifted.

The COVID-19 emergency has been in place in Slovakia since March 12, 2020. Currently, there's also a state of emergency in place due to the mass influx of refugees from Ukraine.
