Police forces activated to tackle onslaught of migrants

The Interior Ministry reported on Friday, September 1, that the district office in Velky Krtis district declared an emergency situation due to the increase in irregular migration to make it possible to use legislative tools to streamline the necessary processes.

In their statements on Sunday, the Police Corps and the Interior Ministry assured that the Police Corps had deployed all forces and resources to ensure order and security in connection with illegal migration, adding that no violations of public order by migrants were registered in Velky Krtis or elsewhere in Slovakia.

They point out that countries throughout Europe encounter illegal migration, it isn't just a problem in Slovakia. According to the Police Corps, no crime or misdemeanour committed by migrants in Slovakia has been recorded so far. Every suspicion is checked. Residents are being asked for patience. They draw attention to the fact that these are people fleeing the war and are going further west. They don't want to stay in Slovakia and stay only for the necessary time, during which they undergo checks in the Slovak and European systems.

Several parties called on the Premier and Police to deal resolutely with growing illegal migration in the southern districts of Slovakia. The Interior Ministry called on political parties to refrain from spreading misinformation and misleading society.
The police posted on a social network on Thursday, August 31, that the Slovak and Hungarian police had signed an agreement on the expansion of the joint patrols of both states in Hungary that will enable more intensive and efficient cooperation in fighting illegal migration.

President Zuzana Caputova welcomed the fact that the police are strengthening their capacities in processing migrant registration, maintaining public order, as well as border protection. The president views the protection and safety of Slovak citizens as the absolute priority. "However, the problem of migration needs to be viewed comprehensively and in a way that ensures the protection of the external Schengen borders in particular," she said.
