A total of 564,228 adults in Slovakia (population of 5.5 million) live in a single household with their parents or one of their parents, and these adults are mostly men, said spokesperson for the 2021 census Jasmina Stauder on Sunday. "Out of more than half a million inhabitants living with parents in their adult age, men make up almost 70 percent. In addition, in the age category of 30-49 years, it's more than 73 percent," claimed the spokesperson.
This finding amounts to a significant reversal in societal trends in comparison to the 2011 census, when it was mostly women in their thirties who lived with their parents.
According to census 2021, up to 313,387 independent children live in households made up of a married couple. "There are 191,522 adult children of various age categories living in households with only their mother," added the spokeswoman. Almost 39,000 adults in all age categories live with a single father. There are 20,403 adults in different age categories living in the type of households where parents live as unmarried partners.
