NAKA actions might lead to Security Council Session

NAKA actions might lead to Security Council Session

The National Crime Agency, aka NAKA, reportedly detained at least two individuals on Thursday morning, with several media outlets reporting that they were members of an Inspectorate team that previously investigated NAKA officers.

The individuals who were associated with the Inspectorate, are no longer employed there, according to statements from the Interior Ministry. The ministry clarified that while these officers were formerly part of the investigation team in question, they have since left the Inspectorate. The ministry expressed a willingness to cooperate with law enforcement if the Inspectorate's assistance is required for any matter.

Reports indicate that NAKA took into custody a minimum of two individuals on Thursday, leading multiple media outlets to suggest their ties to a previous Inspectorate team responsible for investigating NAKA officers. Additionally, the Agency allegedly conducted searches at the residences of Michal Alac, the head of the Slovak Intelligence Service, and its former head Vladimir Pcolinsky. However, both individuals were not present at the time of the attempted raids. Notably, NAKA officers were also observed at the premises of the Slovak Intelligence Service headquarters and the National Security Bureau, as reported by the topky.sk news outlet.

In response to these events, President Zuzana Caputova has called upon Prime Minister Ludovit Odor to convene a session of the Security Council. The president's spokesman, Martin Strizinec, conveyed her expectation that the police and the supervising prosecutor promptly clarify the situation to the public.

Premier Ludovit Odor has said that he'll decide whether to convene a session of the Security Council over Thursday's police raids at the headquarters of security authorities once he has sufficient information, stressing the need to keep a cool head and wait for an explanation.

The developments have raised questions about the nature of the detentions and the actions taken by NAKA in relation to both the Inspectorate and the Slovak Intelligence Service.
