Students are not motivated to move abroad only because they fail to find a prospect of staying in Slovakia; they are often demotivated during their studies at secondary schools, Prime Minister Ludovit Odor said after meeting representatives of the Alliance of Secondary School Students on Tuesday.
Odor claimed that his government is working hard to communicate with young people. "To talk about how we can retain the talent that we have, how we can offer them some perspective and what problems they have," said Odor.
The premier remarked on this note that new pilot projects at schools need to focus on critical thinking and financial literacy, for instance. "Secondary school students need critical thinking skills to live practical lives because the next [problem] on the list is the rise of extremism in secondary schools," noted the premier.
Odor said that he and the students also addressed differences between Slovak and foreign schools. "What could be improved in terms of state policies so that they feel better here, see the light at the end of the tunnel and want to work here," he remarked, adding that he's thankful for their feedback.
Meanwhile, head of the alliance Viliam Dominik Duras said that the students presented Odor with ten measures they consider most urgent.
