A significant majority of Slovaks admit that the issue of ecology influences or in the future will certainly influence the choice of e-shop from which they will buy, as confirmed by a July opinion poll for the Slovak startup Repetito.
44.7 percent of Slovaks would be positively influenced in their decision to buy from an e-shop focusing on eco-friendly solutions, for example the use of eco-packaging. Another 42.7 percent of respondents said that they have not thought about this issue yet, but would consider it. Only 12.7 percent of respondents say they are not interested in ecological issues when shopping online.
In 80 per cent of cases, orders are packed in cardboard and in 20 per cent in plastic packaging. While concrete proposals have already been made in the EU to reduce packaging volumes and use reusable packaging for online purchases in the coming years, Slovakia is only beginning to get to grips with the issue.
According to Repetito, online shops will need reusable packaging in the foreseeable future based on upcoming European legislation. Online shopping has been made significantly more attractive by the pandemic. Only eight per cent of people have remained loyal to shopping exclusively in bricks-and-mortar stores. Up to 70 percent of respondents use online shopping one to three times a month, 16 percent shop this way four to five times a month and six percent more than five times.
The survey also confirmed that, in addition to price, the quality of goods (54.4 per cent), reviews and ratings of other customers (39 per cent), a clear and simple ordering process (34.8 per cent), as well as the time availability of the product (25.3 per cent) and the reputation of the e-shop (23.3 per cent) are important to people when buying online.
The survey was carried out on a representative sample of 1,050 respondents aged between 18 and 65.
