Premier Ludovit Odor reacts to Viktor Orban's statements

Prime Minister Ľudovít Ódor criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's statements about Slovakia as a "breakaway territory," deeming them unacceptable. He made this statement after the government's meeting on Wednesday.

The premier stated:  “So far our position has been very clear. Any questioning of Slovakia's territorial integrity is unacceptable. It does not help bilateral relations and it does not help the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. I strongly reject these statements.”

According to the prime minister, Slovakia's position on this matter has been clear so far. He added that the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Hungarian ambassador to inform him why Orbán's statements are not acceptable.

Over the weekend, at a summer university event for Hungarians in Romania, Orbán criticized the Hungarian minority in Slovakia for not being able to secure representation in the Slovak Parliament, despite comprising roughly ten percent of the population. He referred to the situation as a weak performance, particularly when someone wants to do something for their homeland in "separated parts of the country."
