Bratislava addresses damages caused by thunderstorm

Bratislava City Hall continues to deal with the damage caused by the thunderstorm that hit the city on Sunday, clearing roads and public areas of loads of mud, stones and dirt. It has since Sunday deployed all of its appropriate personnel to take charge of cleaning sewage system openings and water drainage systems. None of the city's roads are closed due to the torrential rain, however. As for the cost of the relief work, it stated that it's too early to calculate the sum because the work is still under way.

Meanwhile insurance companies expect the damage caused to property to be worth thousands of euro. The Allianz-Slovenská Poisťovňa insurance company has recorded 72 individual insured events triggering claims since Sunday morning, mostly concerning flooded cellars in houses and blocks of flats. "Clients also reported damage to electrical wiring due to lightning strikes, while the roof of one farm building collapsed, and sewage systems were flooded. The hail caused damage to cars, in vineyards and to crops”, said the company's corporate communications specialist Artur Sturmankin. The insurer estimates the damage at over €190,000 for now, and it expects more claims over the next few days. The ČSOB Poisťovňa insurance company has received claims concerning water flooding into living rooms and the flooding of basement areas. The damage due to the thunderstorm in Bratislava reported to the Komunálna poisťovňa insurance company so far stands at around €12,000. This mainly concerns parts of flooded homes, damaged cars, and company property. This is just an initial estimate however with the company expecting more claims to come in.
