Government approved its Manifesto

On Monday morning, the Slovak Government, appointed to lead the country until the snap election on September 30, approved its Manifesto. The cabinet aims for the orderly running of the state until the elections, a responsible budget and a pro-European and pro-Western foreign policy. Medium-term priorities are helping the weaker, retaining and attracting talent and using European money effectively.

"Our priority will be, in addition to solving current problems, an emphasis on the future, competitiveness and success of Slovakia. The country cannot be endlessly governed from the rear-view mirror, we cannot ignore the trends that determine life in the 21st century," the submitters said. In key areas, they promise to prepare strategic materials with concrete steps for the next government. At the same time, a government of experts will not raise cultural and ethical issues.

"We will bring together the expert capacities of the state and prepare options for the next government to ensure orderly public finances. Slovakia needs a realistic, effective and responsible consolidation plan," they explained.

The government sees the preparation and implementation of measures to help weaker income groups fight high inflation and its effects as crucial. "Instead of targeted assistance to those who really need it, blanket solutions have dominated so far. And we cannot afford these in the long term in our current budgetary situation," the signatories concluded.

Ministers want to ensure that European Union funds are used efficiently to minimise their forfeiture. They therefore want to propose ways to manage these scarce resources more efficiently, transparently and professionally.

The government aims to retain and attract talent. "Slovakia is not only failing to retain its talented people, but is becoming unattractive to bright minds from abroad. Together, we must ensure that this trend is gradually reversed," they pointed out.

The government wants to continue to be "a reliable and committed partner that will prioritise common European solutions over unilateral steps".
