Four million euro for fire damage restoration in Banská Štiavnica

President Zuzana Čaputová visited the town of Banská Štiavnica in the middle of Slovakia, where the reconstruction work on historical buildings after the fire is going on. Almost all have in the meantime new provisional roofs. The municipality believes the seven buildings can be finished by 2025. It has been working on the recovery projects over the last weeks. The President commented on site after she saw the state of the burned and damaged buildings:

"With Mrs. Mayor and the representatives of other institutions, we discussed how they have succeeded in implementing the promises of the former government in terms of financial aid for the reconstruction works and securing the objects concerned. Until now, everything is going as scheduled."

Six buildings have been secured and prepared for the reconstruction. Except for the state building of the Museum of Mining known as Berggericht that has still not got a temporary roof. Currently, the municipality has four million euro in its bank account to use for all affected buildings. The Ministry of Environment promised to give the financial support of three and a half million euro. Major Nadežda Babjaková explained:

"Right now we have just started with opening the public call for delivering the project documentation."

The proprietors of Banka lásky – Bank of Love Museum - are still waiting for the money, as this site is considered to be from where the fire had spread. The investigations on the cause of fire are ongoing. Igor Brossmann, the co-founder of the museum said:

"In the investigations we are regarded as the injured party. It looks like electrical short-circuit caused by martens was the break-out of the fire. This hypothesis seems to be the most probable until now. So that´s why ten days ago we applied for the unblocking of the financial allocation."
