President to attend Coronation of British King Charles III

President Zuzana Caputova is leaving for London on Friday to represent Slovakia at Saturday's, May 6, coronation of British King Charles III. "It's an honour for me to represent Slovakia at such an important event as the coronation of the new British King Charles III," said the head of state.

At the invitation of Buckingham Palace, the president will be accompanied by her partner Juraj Rizman. They will also attend a reception linked to the coronation at Buckingham Palace hosted by King Charles early on Friday evening.        


The coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday.

On this occasion, RTVS will present the coronation in live coverage of the event from London both on TV and in Radio.

On Friday, Slovak Radio is hosting British historian George Gross talking about details of preparatory works for the coronation.

On Saturday, the ceremony will be commented by Jakub Abrahám, a royal commentator. The broadcast will bring live reports by RTVS correspondents on the spot as well as expert discussions with guests in studios including HE Slovak Ambassador to the United Kingdom Robert Ondrejcsak. RTVS will also broadcast live the Coronation Concert at Windsor castle on TV channel Dvojka at 9:30 pm on Sunday.

King Charles III visited Slovakia twice as a Prince. In 1991, he paid visit to Bratislava with his late wife Princess Diana. In 2000, he came to Badin primeval forest and expressed his high appreciation of the elm population as he has been the patron of the reintroduction of elms in Great Britain.

In the British islands, English elms were decimated by a disease. Now King Charles III addressed the then Centre of scientific tourism in Slovakia at the Institute of Forest Ecology of the Slovak Academy of sciences founded by professor Viliam Pichler. In his letter, the King expressed his wish to experiment with resistant elms from Slovakia in his residence Highgrove house. Slovak experts provided elms grown in in vitro way to King in 2000. Professor Pichler along with his collaborator Professor Jaroslav Durkovic were invited to Highgrove in 2020 to check on the condition of the fully grown healthy trees. The Technical University in Zvolen was to join international projects on innovative methods of forestry including nature friendly forest cultivation. The projects were initiated by the now King Charles III.
