Slovakia's economic policy should support transition to electromobility
The Slovak Electromobility Association (SEVA) is concerned about the direction of the public discourse on the European Union's environmental goals in the area of reducing emissions from road transport, however, the transformation of the automotive industry to electromobility is a huge opportunity for Slovakia, SEVA said on Tuesday.

The association therefore called for a professional discussion on the setting of Slovakia's economic policy, which will be aimed at supporting the transition of our car companies and the local supply chain towards electromobility.

"Although Slovakia is at the bottom of Europe in terms of the number of electric cars on the road, we have to realise that domestic car manufacturers don't produce for our market. We export to the very place where today, on average, every fifth car sold is powered by battery electricity," pointed out SEVA head Patrik Krizansky. "In this regard, all car manufacturers here have a clear transformation strategy until 2030." he added.

The automotive industry has already reduced investments in combustion engine technology, on the contrary, according to SEVA, global investments in electromobility will reach $1.2 trillion (€1.092 trillion) by 2030. "This trend is clearly set and the train has already left the station. The big car companies have already decided on their strategy and it will simply go in that direction," pointed out Krizansky.

According to the association, expertise should be maintained in the public debate on setting Slovakia's long-term and strategic economic policy in relation to electromobility. "We consider it to be important not only to initiate this discussion but also to supply it with expert arguments so that, despite the upcoming election in Slovakia, the topic of electromobility doesn't become just another reason for dividing society and spreading unjustified fears," noted Krizansky.
