With the summer usually being a silly season, a scandal surrounding the recent presidential campaign rises to the surface. Just recently an audio recording was posted on the internet opening questions about one of the top candidates in the election Radoslav Prochazka and the financial background of his campaign.
Prochazka, who is now a member of the newly formed party Siet has been caught on an audio tape engaging in a conversation which suggests that Prochazka spent on his campaign up to twice the amount that he officially admitted to spending and that he wanted to formally reduce expenditures by paying a pre-election advertisement in a newspaper without an invoice. The conversation was recorded by another politician Igor Matovic, of the Ordinary People party, who also happens to be the owner of the these newspapers. Matovic claims the recording is authentic and points to an amoral and illegal doing, Prochazka argues that the tape has been edited, out of context. Matovic urges Prochazka to agree with publishing of the whole conversation. Prochazka, considers this to be a provocation and a political assassination. Prochazka so far failed to explain the confusion about the funding of his campaign. Previously he claimed that he'll prove his innocence with a lie detector, but now refuses to take it. In the Presidential election Prochazka was a very strong candidate, who gained huge support, but in the end did not make it past the first round of the presidential elections. Analysts started calling his the new leader of the opposition giving him high hopes in any future elections. However, after the scandal of the unclear financing broke out, his image was damaged and political scientists claim it will probably reflect also on the preferences of his new party Siet.
