The Nation's Memory Institute has released the organisational structure and personnel lists of the communist-era military counterintelligence in Slovakia in 1968-1989, thereby complementing previously released lists of State Security agents in Slovakia.
"Today, we're publishing the organisational structure of military counterintelligence's departments in 1968-1989 and a list of 371 members assigned to them," UPN chair Jergus Sivos stated at a press conference on Thursday.
Military counterintelligence operated under the remit of the secret police, subordinated to the Interior Ministry. Formally tasked with intelligence protection of the Czechoslovak People's Army, in reality it participated in spying on, monitoring and persecuting so-called inner and outer enemies of the state while helping the Communist Party to remain in power.
As of 2007, UPN has been releasing the organisational structure of StB departments and their personnel listings, publishing information on more than 4,690 agents to date.
