As we reported yesterday Tuesday’s planned vote of no-confidence has been postponed until Thursday, December 15 at 5 p.m. The postponement was the result of a procedural proposal submitted by OLANO caucus head Michal Sipos, who pointed to the need to create room for negotiations on a solution to the current crisis, including possible elections. The postponement was supported by OLANO and Sme Rodina, as well as many independent MPs, including those from Za Ludi.
During the parliamentary debate on the motion, SaS leader Richard Sulik said that he can imagine a meaningful reconstruction of the Government after its fall. SaS would support the new cabinet in such a case, but wouldn't be part of it. He also spoke about the possibility of a snap election and a caretaker government. According to Sulik the postponement should give Finance Minister Matovic time to step down from his post.
Independent MP, ex-premier and head of the extra-parliamentary Hlas-SD party Peter Pellegrini stated on Tuesday that he and the MPs centered around him will vote in favour of toppling the Government even if Finance Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) resigns in the meantime.
A group of OLaNO MPs centered around MP Kristian Cekovsky have asked Prime Minister Eduard Heger and OLaNO leader Igor Matovic to strive until the very last moment to reach an agreement with SaS, in order to prevent the collapse of the Cabinet, even at the cost of overhauling it. At the same time, the group reiterated their request for the vote of confidence in the Government to be postponed until January.
The opposition Smer-SD party's stance on the vote of no-confidence in the Government is invariable - all of its 27 MPs will be present for the vote and will vote for the Government's fall, said party leader Robert Fico.
