COP 27: Zuzana Caputova drew attention to solutions to the climate crisis

According to the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová, the climate crisis will not wait until the energy crisis is solved. Short-sighted solutions such as switching from natural gas to coal will only accelerate the destruction of planet Earth. She stated this at the United Nations climate summit (COP27) in Egypt. She also announced that Slovakia is planning to launch a large-scale decarbonisation of its economy. The president declared that Slovakia will join the Global Methane Pledge Initiative at the summit in Egypt, adding that thanks to the decarbonisation of its economy, Slovakia's industrial carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by more than 40 percent by 2030. In addition, the country will also stick to its plan to shut down its coal-fired power plants next year, despite record energy prices. Caputova reminded the world leaders present of the need to accelerate the process of transitioning to green and renewable energy sources, including geothermal energy. The president also noted that ecological transformation isn't a cheap affair and will affect the most vulnerable people, calling for more support for the most affected countries to help them cope with the situation.
