Year-on-year inflation in Slovakia in September amounted to 14.2 percent, the highest level in more than 22 years, the Statistics Office has reported. Core inflation is standing at 14.6 percent and net inflation at 11.9 percent. Meanwhile, consumer prices of goods and services rose by 0.9 percent month-on-month.
High prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages had the biggest impact on overall inflation. Food was 24.1 percent more expensive, while the prices of non-alcoholic beverages rose by 14.9 percent. Other increases were as follows: bread and cereals - 27.1 percent; milk, cheese and eggs - 26.4 percent; meat - 25 percent, vegetables - 14.3 percent, fruit - 11.6 percent; and oils and fats - 58.4 percent.
The second most significant contributor to high inflation was a 16.6-percent increase in housing and energy prices. Prices for water supplies increased by 4.4 percent, while the cost of maintenance and household repairs rose by 19.9 percent.
In September, the consumer price index increased by 13.9 percent year-on-year for employed households, 14.7 percent for low-income households, and 15.7 percent for pensioner households. In the January-September period, meanwhile, consumer prices increased by 11.9 percent year-on-year.
