Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák sent his condolences via telegram to his Czech counterpart Ľubomír Zaorálek on Tuesday over the tragic death of four Czech soldiers in Afghanistan, TASR learnt from the ministry press department on the same day.
“Along with the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic is fighting against terrorism in Afghanistan as part of ISAF operation and paving the way for peace and stability in the country. Despite this tragic event, continuing the involvement of our countries in building a stable and democratic Afghanistan is justified,” Lajčák wrote in the telegram. “In the same way that we share joy in the progress the mission has recorded, we also share grief with the Czech Republic about this irreplaceable loss.” Another letter of condolence was sent by President Andrej Kiska to his Czech counterpart Milos Zeman. At least 16 people, including Czech soldiers, ten Afghan civilians and two policemen died in the suicide attack that occurred close to the Afghan base Bagram early on Tuesday in the province of Parvan. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. Bagram is the largest allied base in Afghanistan, with more than 40,000 soldiers.
