Slovakia still has to draw almost half of its current share of EU funding amounting to €11.4 billion, by the end of this year, according to Deputy Prime Minister for Investments Ľubomír Vážny (Smer-SD) . "The amount left is massive, and in reality it means that we'll have to draw €3 billion per year in the next two years. It will be a complicated thing, a commitment and a huge challenge," Vážny said at a session of Parliament's Committee for European Affairs.
The European Commission is currently considering extending the period during which countries may draw EU funding by an extra year. Meanwhile Vážny said that next year will mark the beginning of a new programme period until 2020 that will involve €12.9 billion in funds dedicated to Slovakia.
