There is a newly leaked confidential report that provides for allegations of tunnelling on the part of the erstwhile management of the Military Intelligence Service during the reign of Prime Minister Robert Fico's first government in the years 2006- 2010. The SME daily brings the story, claiming it has received a copy of the confidential file from an anonymous sender.
According to the report, the Military Intelligence Service engaged in the illegal transfers of property to other institutions and private entities affiliated with the management of the intelligence service, thus depriving the state of millions of euro.
Military Defence Intelligence managers are also said to have been involved in this scandal, according to the report. The institutions apparently bought property, redecorated it with the financial resources allocated to the two intelligence services, then declared the property redundant and sold it for a considerably cheaper price to people affiliated with them. These scams were to have taken place at the ministry under the rule of Minister Jaroslav Baska who claims he has
no knowledge of them. “I've had no information concerning such corrupt practices. This is the first time I've heard about this," Baska said for the SME daily. The document was reportedly based on an internal probe within the service initiated under the tenure of former defence minister Ľubomír Galko from the Freedom and Solidarity Party. Both Galko and former Prime Minister Iveta Radičová have confirmed for the daily that such a document exists, but were unable to say whether or not it's the same document as the one acquired by the daily.
