More than 300 renowned wine-tasters from all over the world gathered in Bratislava at the prestigious three-day Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) wine competition for the first time held in the former Eastern Bloc. During three days judges tasted more than more than 8,168 samples of wine out of which 214 came from Slovakia. According to the ambassador of the event, Thomas Brandl, Slovakia deserved to host the competition as it’s slowly making its way on the international wine map.
“I think that Slovakia has really developed the quality of its wines tremendously during the last ten years. Slovak wines are now very good; not all of them but many of them are very good. They win medals on international competitions so I think this is the right moment to encourage the wine producers in Slovakia and make the world see that Slovakia is a very important wine producing country as well.” Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has been taking place annually since 1994, in order to showcase different countries. It is among the five most prominent vinicultural events in the world. Hosting it is a significant success for Slovakia, as the expo has been held recently in renowned cities of viniculture such as Bordeaux, Palermo, and Lisbon.
