One person so far has been charged in connection with a protest that took place on Friday in front of the Parliament building. The person charged was a 40-year-old woman from the Nitra region identified only as Anna F., according to police, who have been treating the protest as an unannounced and spontaneous public gathering. Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Parliament building on Friday, demanding that the Government-sponsored law on requiring Covid certificates for access to various places be rejected by MPs. The crowd chanted phrases such as "Gestapo", "treason" and "give the Parliament to us". They blocked the entrace to Parlliament for a time and riot police were deployed to restore order.
The Bratislava borough of Stare Mesto told the TASR press agency that it had been informed about the protest in advance, but the organisers reported that it would take place on a street nearby Parliament, and not directly in front of the building. According to the borough, that the crowd reached and blocked the entrance to the building was in violation of the law on freedom of assembly.
