The GLOBSEC 2014 international security conference that will take place in Bratislava in the week from 14th – 16th of May, should be focused mainly on Ukraine and the risks related to the tense situation, president of the Slovak Atlantic Commission Rastislav Káčer told TASR on Friday.
“I think that it will be the main issue, while others that are related to it directly or indirectly will certainly revolve around it,” said the former Slovak ambassador to the U.S.A., noting that the EU is set to witness European Parliament elections later this month. “The issue of European Parliament elections provokes a broader debate on the future of Europe,” said Káčer, adding that the situation in Ukraine raises issues such as European security, common foreign policy, energy security and cyber-security. The conference is due to be attended by a host of notable figures, among them NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Swedish Foreign Affairs Minister Carl Bildt, former supreme commander of the allied forces in Afghanistan John Allen and the prime ministers of the Visegrad Four (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary).
