Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák led the Slovak delegation at the May session of the Council of Europe, presided over by Austrian Foreign Affairs Minister Sebastian Kurz, TASR has learnt from the Foreign Ministry’s press department.
The meeting revolved mostly about current developments in Ukraine and other themes concerning the activities of the Council of Europe with respect to the challenges Europe faces in terms of stability and a crisis of values. Minister Lajčák besides praising the Report on the State of Democracy, Human Rights and Rule of Law in Europe in his speech turned the concern of the Council also to the Ukrainian crisis. “Our joint priority is to stabilize and de-escalate the situation in Ukraine,” he said. In this respect, Lajčák called for the utilization of mechanisms created by the Council of Europe for preventing and addressing conflicts, including the protection of minorities.
