Vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine continues in Slovakia

The Slovak State Institute for Drugs Control (ŠÚKL) recommends continuing vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine in Slovakia. The State Institute for Drugs Control very closely monitors the suspicions of adverse reactions to vaccines reported not only in Slovakia but also in the wider European context. "Based on all information available to date, we recommend that you continue to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine", reads ŠÚKL's statement, adding that the benefits outweigh the risks in this case. Recently several countries have temporarily suspended vaccination with the AstraZeneca following reports of blood clots in people who received the jab.

At a press conference on Tuesday European Medicines Agency's  Executive Director Emer Cooke said there was no indication that the blood clot incidents, which he called "very rare" had been caused by the vaccine. "The benefits continue to outweigh the risks, but this is a serious concern and it does need serious and detailed scientific evaluation. This is what we are involved in at the moment," Cooke said adding that the results of its findings would be discussed during a review on Thursday.
