A team of Romanian doctors and nurses has arrived in Slovakia to lend a helping hand to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NUSCH) in Bratislava. "The situation in our hospitals is grave. We're running out of beds for patients in serious condition who need lung ventilation and the attention of anaesthetists and nurses. The situation is particularly serious in western Slovakia," stated Deputy Health Minister Peter Stachura. The mission of the Romanian team in Slovakia is set to last three weeks. The Romanian Ambassador to Slovakia Steluta Arhire stated in this regard that the Romanian Government "sees and perceives the hardship in which Slovakia currently finds itself". Arhire pointed to excellent bilateral relations between Slovakia and Romania, remarking that the aid is an expression of solidarity between the two countries. NUSCH general manager Mongi Msolly said that he believes that the Romanian helpers will be able to form part of teams taking care of COVID-19 patients in serious and critical condition. Deputy Health Minister at the same time claimed that Slovakia is currently holding talks on receiving further foreign medical reinforcements with Denmark. Meanwhile, Poland and Germany have each proposed to Slovakia that they can take care of 10 Slovak patients in need of intensive care in Nowy Targ and Munster respectively.
