Austria, Poland and Hungary ready to help Slovakia

Austria and Poland have offered Slovakia their help in fighting the coronavirus pandemic as Slovakia is in urgent need of medical staff due to the rapid spread of new mutations of coronavirus. Hungary is ready to help as well. President Zuzana Caputova on Thursday thanked Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen via a phone call for the help he offered in resolving the novel coronavirus pandemic. Caputova also said that she welcomed the help offered by Austrian health professionals to our hospitals not only as a sign of good neighbourly relations but also as a rare gesture of solidarity in difficult times. According to Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Martin Klus, Austria is offering Slovakia several army paramedics and Poland 200 places in intensive care units in Poland. This assistance should be enabled by activating the EU's civil protection mechanism, approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday (February 17).
