European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is visiting Bratislava on Monday to mark the 10th anniversary of Slovakia’s joining the European Union.
On the scheduled plan were meetings with the Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, to be awarded with the Order of the White Double-barred Cross Second Class, and a ceremonial lunch with the Prime Minister Robert Fico, during which the officials were to discuss current EU issues. The Economy University in Bratislava was to present the Commission chief with the academic title of Doctor Honoris Causa, who was then to deliver a lecture at the university entitled 'Slovakia in the Heart of Europe'. It was also expected that Barroso will be present at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Slovak gas-pipeline operator Eustream and Ukrainian operator Ukrtransgaz on ensuring the so-called small reverse gas flow from Slovakia to Ukraine through the Vojany thermal power plant close to Košice.
