Situation is alarming, scientists warn before hospitals collapse

Experts are calling on people to respect the COVID-19 measures and to act responsibly, emphasizing that the situation is serious. Mathematician Richard Kollár provided information about this after a meeting with President Zuzana Čaputová that was attended by Slovak top scientists, including Pavol Čekan, Alexandra Bražinová, Boris Klempa, Silvia Pastoreková, Peter Visolajský and Peter Sabaka.

According to Kollár, the adoption of new measures will bring hope for the improvement of the situation, at least in January. "If we ease up now, we are throwing away what we have been doing all year," added the virologist Boris Klempa.

Infectious disease specialist Peter Sabaka stated that the number of COVID-19 victims will increase, and that we must prevent the collapse of medical facilities, or there will be fatal consequences.
He also pointed out that the virus has already started attacking the elderly. Right now, doctors are managing to save around 80% of them.

Chairman of the Medical Trade Union Peter Visolajský said that when it comes to lockdown, Slovakia should take its inspiration from abroad.

Epidemiologist Alexandra Bražinová introduced 10 recommendations that were prepared by Slovak scientists and experts. Among other things, they recommend living in small social bubbles composed of the closest family and friends, undergoing 7 days of isolation or a test before meeting with family, and wearing facemasks.
