Health minister Marek Krajčí and Slovakia's Chief Hygienist Jan Mikas are in agreement that the situation surrounding the coronavirus epidemic will definitely worsen if schools in the country reopen. Therefore, high-school students and second-level pupils at primary schools won't return to schools for the time being, it was announced by Interior minister Roman Mikulec on Tuesday. Moreover, on the very same day the central crisis management team tasked education Minister Branislav Groehling to come up with a new plan for the return of pupils to schools. In response, Groehling said that he plans to present the new plan by 23 December. He believes that children would then be able to return to schools on 8 January, 2021.
Second-level pupils at primary schools have been learning remotely since October 26. Secondary school students are also being educated at home. University students will be studying remotely until the end of the winter term. The only children still attending school facilities are first-level pupils at primary schools and those who go to nursery school.
