“Innovation – the Future of Slovakia” is the name of a conference taking place in Bratislava. Members of Slovakia’s Cabinet, businessmen, academicians, as well as guests from the USA and Taiwan met here to discuss support of innovations in the area of business as well as the overall strategy of the Slovak government in this area.
Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák stated that innovations are an imperative. If we want to prosper our economy must be competitive and based on knowledge. Miroslav Lajčák sees the role of his Ministry in identifying and creating cooperation and international partnerships. The President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia Igor Kottman highlighted that the aim of the conference is to initiate discussion about the potential of Slovakia as a destination for science and research and ask what the business community, academicians, and the government can do in order to make the transformation of Slovakia into a knowledge based economy as fast as possible. The conference should result in concrete steps which should be taken in following few months. The conference welcomed many high profile experts to Slovakia such as Charles Wessner, Director of the US National academy of sciences – the program of technology, innovations and business, Jerry S. H. Lee, director of the US National centre for cancer research and Jyuo-Min Shyu, President of the Institute of industrial technologies from Taiwan.
