Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico opened a Slovak - Spanish Business Forum in Madrid on Tuesday. He is accompanied by Ľubomír Vážny, the Minister for Large Investments, and representatives of the government investment and trade development agency SARIO during his Spanish visit. The event was to present investment possibilities in Slovakia to Spanish businesses. Fico says that the forum should provide a new impetus to economic cooperation between Slovakia and Spain that has only slim capital participation in Slovakia.
To attract potential inventors, the Slovak prime minister cited data from a report by the Word Bank according to which Slovakia can be proud of the best business environment of all Visegrad Group countries. He promised that his government will continue supporting the favourable business climate by expanding government incentives. He also reiterated a pledge that Slovakia will keep the general government deficit below three percent of GDP this year and will adopt further pro-growth measures and stimuli to lure new investors. “I do not want that Slovakia is to be only an assembly workroom,” stated Fico hinting at the dominance of the automotive industry. Deputy Chairman of the Spanish Confederation of Employers Organisations Juan Lazcano took the floor as well. He sees space for cooperation and investments between Slovakia and Spain in the fields of construction, infrastructure, energy, tourism, agriculture, and food industries as well.
