As of Monday, people returning to Slovakia would not have to undergo quarantine in state facilities, but rather could use a mobile app tracking their movement, the Slovak Parliament approved. This new so-called smart quarantine is aimed at decreasing expenses from the state budget and also making hundreds of police officers and firemen available for other tasks.
The smart quarantine is voluntary. A person who agrees to such a form of quarantine is obliged to install and use a mobile application to monitor compliance with the ordered isolation and to provide the system with access to the data of the mobile application to monitor the location of the mobile device. People undergoing smart quarantine will have to allow the app the following: to receive notifications, use the face recognition, local saving of the face photos, to allow automatic updating of the app. Moreover, people undergoing smart quarantine will not be allowed to carry out steps leading to the malfunctioning of the mobile application.
The Public Health Office will have to erase the obtained data as soon as the reason for its processing ceases to exist. The Office will inform the affected person about the erasing of the data.
