Bratislava is one of the 6 most fascinating border towns in Europe, claims the news television CNN. It says that if you can’t afford or find time for a trip to every European country, you can still get the feel for them by simply visiting border towns in which diverse cultures clash and blend, and which showcase the best of all worlds.
Bratislava, alongside the Swedish town of Malmö, the French Lille, the Spanish town of San Sebastian, Italian Trieste and Norwegian Kirkenes – is said to have all these attributes. The author of the article for CNN talks of Bratislava’s rich past, as it had been the capital of the Hungarian Monarchy for 300 years and the town’s proximity to the Austrian capital Vienna. He further highlighted the atmosphere and cuisine of Bratislava, claiming that the town has “fairy tale streets” and cuisine which is a hearty mix of dishes influenced by Austria and Hungary. Last year, more than 4 million tourists came to Slovakia and more than a million of them visited the capital Bratislava. Thanks to the interest of foreign media in Slovakia we can expect more tourist interest in Bratislava and Slovakia for the future as well, claims Director General of the Slovak Tourist Board Marta Kučerová.
