The free movement of people will be restricted in Slovakia from April 8th to April 13th (23:59) as part of measures against the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Cabinet decided on Monday. Exceptions are commuting to and from work, visiting a doctor, shopping for food and toiletries, visiting nature areas within the district, walking pets, the funeral of a relative, and care for a relative or helping a neighbour. District borders may not be crossed, however, either to care for relatives or to help a neighbour. In the case of Bratislava and Košice the whole city is considered one district. The Government has also suspended the right to free gatherings, with the exception of people living in a single household. The measure is aimed at preventing visits during the Easter holidays in order to minimise the coronavirus spread. Police officers and soldiers will be deployed to oversee the ban.
Taking into account numerous questions raised by the restrictions on free movement of people during Easter holiday (from April 8th at midnight to April 13th until 23:59) , the Police decided to issue some recommendations via social media:
When crossing districts, whether by car, bicycle or on foot, you must be prepared to fill in a questionnaire for police officers with your personal data, contact details and the declared purpose of your travel. The police will check the provided data on an ongoing basis, for example during your return to the district where you live. You will also have to show your ID. All cars will be checked at the "borders" between districts. All passengers travelling in the same car will be checked and have to comply to the rules. If they don't they will not be allowed to leave the district.
To facilitate the movement and to speed up the inspection, we recommend
that you provide a proof for the purpose of your movement from one
district to another. For example: employment contract, confirmation from
employer, court decision on childcare, proof of purchasing goods,
confirmation of emergency (for funerals or a medical emergency) , proof
that some work you travel for has been commissioned etc.
The aim of the emergency measures is to minimize the movement of people between districts. Police officers, however, will try to accommodate the needs of individuls concerned.
It is necessary to follow common sense in specific situations. For example:
I live in 'district 1' but the foodstore is in 'district 2', Then go to "District 2", it won't be a problem.
I live in "district 1" on the border with "district 2" and while walking the dog in the forest I cross the district border. Don't worry, police will not punish you.
