The People's Platform made of the Christian Democratic Movement , the Social and Democratic Union, and Most-Hid is now history according to the leader of the latter Béla Bugár. He added that it's against common sense to nourish the grouping, as it's been confined only to ad hoc co-operation.
The People's Platform was formed in November 2012 with the primary goal to provide a centre-right alternative to Prime Minister Robert Fico's single-party Government. This dream began to dissolve approximately a year later due to the platform's inability to form coalitions in support of joint candidates in the November regional elections. Another crisis appeared in the run-up to the recent presidential election, when the Christian Democrats agreed on a joint bid with the governing Smer party concerning major constitutional changes associated with the definition of marriage as being exclusively between a man and a woman. The poor election result (3.3 percent) of their joint presidential candidate, Pavol Hrušovský, was the final nail in the coffin for the grouping.
“The Most-Hid party will support changes to the Constitution that concern the judiciary, but only if they actually mean a step towards improving the Slovak justice system, something that can't be said about the current proposal that has been agreed by the governing Smer and the Christian Democrats”, Béla Bugár said on Monday. He added the current version of the proposal lacks measures to address court delays and public control. He doesn't like the way in which posts in the Judicial Council are assigned to individual officials either.
