The Slovak republic will not accept the results of the Sunday’s referendum, which asked the people of Crimea whether they wanted to join Russia as a federal subject. Furthermore, Slovakia asks Russia to respect the independence and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák claims that “the referendum in the way it was organised is illegal and illegitimate”. Moreover, it was done against the Ukrainian Constitution and under the threat of a military intervention from Russia. This stance is also held by Ukraine, the European Union and the United States.
