With the holiday of All Saints Day and All Souls Day, the cemeteries in Slovak towns are preparing for the masses of visitors. "Since many people come to graves only once a year, this practice brings several negative effects," says the chair of the Slovak Association of Funeral and Cremation Services Ladislav Stríž. He adds that visitors should also consider the ecological impact of the decorations people bring to the graveyards. In Bratislava alone, tens of thousands of people per day during the holidays will visit the main cemeteries. The busiest time at the cemeteries is usually after sunset. "The night idyll of candles brings emotions, and is also appreciated by children," explained Stríž. The cemeteries these days also have extended opening hours, in some towns valid until November 8th. At the cemeteries, fire patrols will also provide increased fire readiness.
