Threema communication will be evidence

Communications via the coded Threema application will be received as evidence in court, independent daily Dennik N informed on Monday. "Everything leading to clarification on the matter can be used as evidence," reads the court's statement. Threema is playing an important role in clarifying the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova. Media has been gradually publishing parts of the communications of entrepreneur Marian Kocner, who is charged with ordering and participating in the murder.

Because of their Threema communications with Marian Kocner, several top representatives of the judiciary have stepped down. After the daily Postoj published information that he had communicated with Marian Kocner via the coded Threema, former Bratislava III district court chairman David Lindtner asked for a suspension of his office as judge. Another case is the Bratislava I District Court's Vladimir Sklenka who can no longer perform in his position as judge as the disciplinary senate has decided so. Chairwoman of the Judicial Council Lenka Prazenkova has filed a disciplinary motion against the judge, while the three-member senate decided in the same way as in the case of former Justice Ministry State Secretary and Regional Court Judge Monika Jankovska. Judge Vladimir Sklenka also faces suspicions that he had communicated with Kocner through the Threema application.

"I view the latest events very positively, believing that the judiciary is in a recovery process and that this process will be completed," said President Zuzana Caputova in Bratislava on Monday. As she explained, positive are the steps that led to disciplinary proposals that allowed for the suspension of the office of judge. "At the same time, I also feel very positive about voices from within the judiciary. I mean both from judges and prosecutors," stated Caputova.
