The opposition has begun collecting signatures on Thursday to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session where they intend to oust Deputy Speaker of Parliament Martin Glvac (SMER-SD).
Glvac has been under pressure to resign since Monday when the Dennik N daily wrote that he had reportedly been bargaining with Marian K. via the coded app Threema a plot deal in Cierna Voda. According to the daily, Glvac also discussed with Marian K. the reconstruction of the government after Robert Fico resigned as prime minister. MOST-HID chairman Bela Bugar argues that if communication between Martin Glvac and Marian K. is authentic, Glvac will not be able to keep his post.
The police say they have messages between Marian K. and Glvac and if MPs ask for further information at a session of the Parliamentary Defense and Security Committee, Police Force President Milan Lucansky may comply with their request in compliance with the law. "The National Criminal Agency is also dealing with this communication. The police force president is providing the relevant authorities with the required information and always answers questions within the extent allowed by the specific norms so that he does not overstep the limit of his powers," Police Force Presidium spokesman Michal Slivka explained.
According to the information available to the Dennik N daily, it is certain that Glvac will not run in the next year's parliamentary elections. It is said inside the SMER party that its member cannot settle the case without leaving his post and even giving up his mandate as an MP. The party's leadership is expected to deal with the situation before this weekend. "This matter should be clarified at the meeting of the party's leadership with Mr. Glvac," SMER-SD MP Erik Tomas said.
