Višegrad Four praise changes in Ukraine

Foreign affairs ministers of the Višegrad Four group of countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) praised the end of violence in Ukraine, the emergence of a new parliamentary speaker in the country and the release of former-premier Yulia Tymoshenko from jail.

Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák thinks Ukraine now finds itself in a situation all too well-known to the four Višegrad group countries from the 1990s. “If they're serious about their statements, then they're about to undergo economic transformation, combat corruption and deal with a large number of accumulated problems, and we have practical experience with all of this”, said Lajčák. He added that the new Ukrainian government needs to include the Party of Regions of the dismissed President Viktor Yanukovych and to have every Ukrainian citizen feel as part of the new process. The outcome of the process must not lead to vengeful reprisal from the side of the winners.
