Representatives of trade unions and employers plan to hold negotiations this week on the minimum wage level for 2020. They have until July 15 to come to an agreement. If they fail to do so, it will be up to the Labour Ministry to submit its own proposal. Currently the minimum wage is set at €520 per month. Trade unions would like to see it increased to €635. The Republican Union of Employers (RUZ) as well as the Association of Employers Unions (AZZZ) have already confirmed that they are holding talks with trade unions this week. "As the bargaining is still going on, we view it as premature to publish any concrete information at the moment. However, we can confirm that one topic of the talks is depoliticising the minimum wage by introducing a mechanism based on which it would be regularly increased in line with indicators set in advance," AZZZ spokesperson Miriam Filová Špániková told the TASR press agency.
Representatives of employers and trade unions hold talks every year, by April 1st at the latest, on the minimum wage increase for the following calendar year. If they fail to find a consensus by July 15th , they'll submit their proposals for the minimum wage increase to the Labour Ministry. Subsequently, the Labour Ministry will submit its own proposal by July 31st at a session of the Economic and Social Council (tripartite). If there is no agreement on the minimum wage at the tripartite talks by the end of August, the Labour Ministry will submit a draft government regulation by September 30th , thereby setting the level. It will then submit the draft to a Cabinet session.
