"I'm guilty," confessed Juraj Hossu, a 29-year-old Slovak in a court trial on Tuesday regarding the murder of Henry Acorda, a Filipino expat in Bratislava last year. Hossu was sentenced to 6 years in prison and mandatory therapy for alcohol addiction. He admitted not only having drunk "several beers" but also having had taken anti-anxiety medicine before the drinks that particular night in May 2018.
Even though several witnesses, doctors and psychologists were called by the court to provide testimonies, there was no reason to hear them after Juraj Hossu pleaded guilty. The court only read out the results of psychological examinations, which stated that he was frequently confused, while quite skilled in economic terms. He displayed some potential of mood swings and fear of losing control, but experts did not identify aggressiveness as a dominant behaviour with him. Meanwhile, tests carried out with the killed Filipino man Henry John Serafica Acorda revealed a cerebral aneurysm, i.e. the weakening of brain artery walls, which most probably developed with him even before the attack.
Acorda, 36, who worked for an IT company in Bratislava, was attacked at night in the centre of Bratislava by the beefy Juraj Hossu, when he was attempting to put a stop to the harassment of his two female colleagues. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital five days later.
